Investigation Station Microscope

Investigation Station Microscope – Susan Thomas

2016 Mini-Grant Recipient

The project provided a hands-on science and technology center comprised of a hand-held digital microscope connected to a computer and large monitor. About 125 third grade students worked in pairs each week to use the microscope and save the images to computer files.

Students collected rocks, shells, feathers, computer parts, printed materials, insects, plants, seeds, wood, natural and man-made materials for study. The prepared images are saved and cataloged on the computer and a school database and website. The students began creating riddle clues for image identification, and the activity may lead to creating a book with riddles and images which can be shared at home.
